A Rocha

A Rocha Kenya (ARK) is based in Watamu near Malindi on the Kenyan coast.  ARK works in close collaboration with other organisations including the National Museums of Kenya, NatureKenya, Local Ocean Trust, Kenya Wildlife Service and the Kenya Forest Service.

Its work focuses on four main areas:

Environmental Education: Training local school teachers to coordinate and oversee educational environmental care activities.

Community Conservation: Money generated from eco-tourism is used to provide secondary school “eco-bursaries” and nature conservation. By working with the local communities, A Rocha Kenya aims to achieve the long-term conservation of threatened habitats and species in the Malindi-Watamu area.

Field Study Centre: has simple, comfortable accommodation for anyone wanting a beach and wildlife-oriented holiday but especially birders & researchers. Small groups for workshops and seminars are also welcome.

Research &  Monitoring: ARK's scientific programme studies avian, marine and other fauna and flora and aims to better understand endangered species and threatened habitats and thereby help to protect them.

Prayer Focus Update:

Praise God for answer to prayers.  Kai's visa finally came through a couple of weeks (hallelujah!) and then three days ago his South African citizenship also came through so they can now apply for his SA passport which should take 1-2 weeks to be ready!

Pray for Colin, Roni and Kai as they plan to head back to Kenya at the start of December and in particular for Colin as he wraps up writing his thesis.

He also writes: "Please pray deeply and fervently for South Africa as a country right now as you may have seen in the news regarding the student riots and protests - apparently demanding free tertiary education but it has turned very ugly and racial and the protestors keep changing their demands and if they're not met then just go a rampage burning buildings etc Very very tough for the university management across the country. Thankfully UCT where I am has not had huge violence - but the university has been closed for a month now (I'm actually writing from a cafe as it's not easy to get into the office). We urgently need a miracle to break the deadlock and bring a solution. For sure there are hang overs from apartheid that need to be engaged with and addressed - but violence is not the way forward and it really seems like there are political meddlings going on that are stirring the protestors further. The church needs to rise up and speak out for what is right and for an end to the violence and take a lead in open engagement and transformation...

Please pray for A Rocha Kenya whose main need is for funds.  Pray that any proposals they are able to submit will be successful.  Pray also for the team that is very small now and will be exhausted. Colin and Roni  plan to manage the centre over Christmas to give the others a break, particularly pray for Stanley and Carol.

Pray for Stanley and Carol as they continue to hold the fort and also for the fund-raising to be able to send them to All Nations Christian College next year.
